Dr. Marcus Chu was raised in Helena, where his family still resides, and knew that he wanted to set up his practice in a small community after become a physician. Helena resident, Gina Carmen Turner, is making a name for herself in the high profile industry of custom made jewelry. After working as a hairstylist for 22 years, Turner longed for a career that would provide her a flexible schedule and more time with her family. After much prayer, Gina felt God leading her into the jewelry making business. Her jewelry features metals instead of jewels and creates her pendants from sheet metal to give them an edgier look.
The 16th Annual Delta Family Gospel Fest was held on Saturday, May 21st at the Cherry Street Pavilion in Helena. The event featured the finest local, regional, and national gospel performers. The Delta Cultural Center works to build a greater awareness of the cultural aspects of gospel music, its origins in fields of enslaved labor and its explosive expansion in the 20th century atmosphere of recorded music, Northern migration, and mass communications.

AY Magazine recently selected, "Faces of the Delta: The Art of AJ Smith" as the #1 thing to do in Arkansas for the month of May. This exhibit by famed artist Aj Smith features large, graphite pencil portraits and silver point prints of Arkansas and Mississippi Delta residents that he encountered in the culture-rich region. The works and their stories “present the spirits and souls” of his subjects, young and old. The exhibit will be featured at the Delta Cultural Center until July 4th.
Teach For America–Arkansas announced today that it will be opening a new office in Helena. The office, which is set to open at the end of August, will serve as a meeting place and resource hub for Teach For America teachers and staff, as well as other local educators working in area schools.

(Helena, AR) Credited with writing chart-topping hits for country stars, Sherrie Austin, Kylie Sackley and Alissa Moreno will debut their new tour entitled “Nashville Chicks with Hits” in Helena on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lily Peter Auditorium at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA). The concert will be part of the Warfield Concert series, which is free, thanks in part to event sponsor Turley Charitable Trust.
